In Memory

Kenneth Burman

Obituary

Ken took the hand of Jesus and entered into eternal life on January 1, 2023. A man with a servant’s heart, he made it his life’s mission to serve others and reflect the love of Jesus to all.

Ken was born on July 17, 1949, to the late Russell and Hazel Burman in Hancock MI. He served in the U.S. Navy for three years after which he attended Eastern Michigan University, graduating with a degree in Biology.

After a few different jobs, Ken chose a career where he could best serve others for his lifetime. He became an electrician at Chrysler and began using his skills to volunteer with nonprofits like Habitat for Humanity. He also volunteered with churches, charities, the elderly, and those who could not afford to pay an electrician. He never took credit for his work and kept his efforts quiet so that God would get the glory. Above all, he wanted to serve the Lord by serving others. And he just loved people! It was a good day if he could do an electrical job, meet someone new who had a need, or help train others to do the same. He was often joined in volunteering by his wife and friends who marveled at his stamina, skills, and fun-loving personality.  Ken also enjoyed golfing, motorcycling, cooking, hunting, bicycling, and getting together with family and friends.

Ken is survived by his cherished wife of 31 years, Barbara (“Barbie”) Theisen; his beloved daughter Kristen Thompson; loving grandchildren James, Ben and Grace Thompson; and their father Keith Thompson. Also surviving are sister Patty Johnson (Jim Buccini); brothers-in-law Dave Theisen (Mary), Dan Theisen, John Theisen (Cici), and Paul Theisen (Kristine); his Aunt Ginny Burman, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

During his illness, Ken was very grateful for friends who provided constant support and encouragement, especially those from Our Redeemer Church. In addition, Ken had unending thanks for all of the workers at Promedica Hospice, especially Vickie, and for the entire Infusion Center at MyMichigan Midland Hospital. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to Cancer Services, 400 Ashman St #200, Midland MI 48640, or Promedica Hospice Memorial Fund, 1320 Waldo Rd, Suite 300, Midland MI 48642.

Memorial services for Kenneth will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Our Redeemer Church, 889 S Poseyville Road. Mr. Byron Wolf will officiate, and burial will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery on Monday, January 30, 2022. Ken’s family will receive guests for visitation from 11 a.m. Saturday until the time of service. Arrangements for Ken have been entrusted to the care of the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Directors.

What a sweet and gracious person.  I am so glad he was able to be involved with the reunion committee and attend the reunion.  If it wasn't for him, I would probably still be in Chemistry class. Many fond memories.  I send Barb and his family my condolence.  He passed 1/1/23.  In Memory service will be held in Midland 1/28.

My deepest sympathies to Ken's family.   Ken was a great friend during our high school years.  Unfortunately, we lost contact until just before the class 50 year reunion but we thankfully were able to renew our friendship.  He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.

Agree with Lynette that so glad we got to reconnect with Ken on the reunion meetings.  He served on our 50th too.  I enjoyed shopping with him for the plates, cups, napkins, utensils, etc.

We worried that Ken's cancer may have returned--he didn't deserve all he had been thru  (and he never complained!).

Rest in piece, Ken.  you will be missed

My deepest sympathies to Ken's family!  I rejoice knowing that he is in the presence of Jesus now.  He was an amazing man full of love and compassion!  I was so impressed with his desire to help with whatever he could on the reunion committee.  I remember him as a fun loving guy in high school.  He touched many lives with his giving spirit.  He really cared about people.  May the Lord comfort his family and friends!
